How to Cook Sirloin Tip Steak
You have bought yourself some sirloin steak today? Great choice! Cutting them into bite-sized pieces goes very well for the whole family with some rice, mashed potatoes or fries.
Sirloin steak tips are bite-sized pieces cut from the sirloin, a delicious section of beef. They’re tender, lean, and often used for grilling, stir-frying, or kebabs.
Here’s how to cook sirloin tip steak:
- Cut your steak with a sharpened knife into bite-sized pieces, not too small, around as thick as two fingers. Pop into a bowl.
- Marinate the steak tips for at least 1 hour or up to 24 hours. A good marinade typically includes soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic, and seasonings. If you don’t have fresh garlic, you may replace it with garlic powder.
- Preheat a cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat until very hot.
- Add a small amount of oil to the pan and sear the steak pieces for 1-2 minutes per side to develop a brown crust. Don’t fill up the pan too tightly as that will prevent that crispy brownness we want.
- If needed, use a meat thermometer to check for doneness: 120°F (49°C) for rare, 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium.
- Remove the steak pieces from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with your favorite herb.
Key tips:
- Sirloin tip is a lean cut, so it benefits from marinating to enhance tenderness and flavor.
- Cook quickly over high heat to avoid drying out the meat.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking to ensure proper browning.
- Let the steak pieces rest to allow juices to redistribute.
- This can be cooked in an air fryer that has been pre-heated too.
